Symbolism of Birds

As you can imagine, we often use the white dove symbol in our jewelry, but other birds are wonderful symbols for jewelry as well. Birds are believed to mediate between earth and heaven, the physical and spiritual worlds. A bird in flight symbolizes freedom and the spiritual development of the soul.

Blue Jays represent fearless protectors. They symbolize determination, assertiveness, intelligence, clarity and vision.

Crows have long believed to be an omen of transformation, American Indians believe the crow is the keeper of the sacred law and protects the sacred writings of the Great Spirit. The Osage Indians believed that crows bring good news. Crows represent protections, a spirit guide and symbol of light.

The Dove, especially white doves, symbolize peace.

Yesterday in the studio, I worked on an interesting jasper necklace with the American Indian folklore theme of crows bring good news. Multiple pendants include a wonderful ceramic three dimensional black crow, hand carved brecciated jasper feather, plus a silver peace symbol. And to my delight the postman delivered my new pendants from Hong Kong, including some beautiful gemstone crosses. This spring I seem to have more ideas than I have time to bring them to fruition! It's a good "problem" to have.
