Going Hungry in America #BAD11

This morning 1 in 6 Americans wakes up not knowing if they will have the food they need.

The recession has pushed 2.4 million more American children into poverty.  17 million American children are food insecure.  1 in 4 American children do not have enough food.    Before the recession there were 26 million Americans on food stamps;  today there are more than 46 million.  That translates to 1 in 7 Americans.

Today is Blog Action Day 2011 and the theme is Food.  Since 2007, Blog Action Day has focused bloggers around the world to blog about one important global topic on the same day.  Past topics have included water, climate change, and poverty.  This year Blog Action Day coincides with World Food Day.  Find out more about Blog Action Day.
