Onyx a Healing Gemstone

Another special stone for me is black Onyx. My wedding ring is an antique sterling silver setting with a lovely onyx rectangular cab and a little diamond in the center. Plus, I suppose that, being a Capricorn, the stone simply suits me.
Onyx, an agate, belongs to the quartz family. The color is opaque black. Onyx is found in Brazil, India, Madagascar, Mexico, and the United States. Do not confuse it with the yellow, brown, and green “onyx” stones that are varieties of calcite-aragonite.

In ancient times onyx was considered one of the most important healing stone. Onyx was often used as protection from black magic. Whereas a moonstone will “remember” the spiritual events that happen to a person, onyx will “remember” the physical events surrounding a person.

Onyx should be worn over a long period of time because its power develops slowly. It is very effective for skin infections, inflammation and sunburn.

Onyx deflects negative energy and brings inner harmony. Promoting self-confidence and a sense of responsibility, onyx also relieves stress, fights depression, sooths fear. Onyx is said to help the wearer achieve success.

Onyx has a zodiacal affinity with Capricorn, as well as Aquarius, Pisces, Cancer, and Libra.
